Multipurpose Glass Jars for Zero-Plastic at Home - a Photoblog |indi.living

How can we stop using plastic and producing garbage? The unfortunate fact is that plastic is all around us, particularly in grocery stores and our own homes. Nearly everything behind the counter at the grocery shop has some form of plastic, let alone the plastic bags that we carry as customers. There are infinite possibilities to help prevent the distribution and generation of plastic in our world. Although the plastic in our landfills and oceans poses a lethal threat to the planet and our health, the solution to this part of the problem is very complex and still being developed. However, as consumers, we can decide to take a small step to reduce our plastic footprint as a preliminary step towards sustainable living.

I started by setting two very achievable goals as a consumer-switching from using polythene bags to carrying cloth bags to supermarkets and replacing plastic in my kitchen containers with a range of glass jars to store its contents. I have been doing this for years now and it only gets better with each passing day. The cloth bags are washable, reusable, and serve the purpose just fine. While these glass jars, apart from being eco-friendly are also easy to maintain (unless you drop them, of course. :P), better for visibility and obviously more elegant. Don’t believe me on the elegant part? Have a look at it yourself! (scroll to the bottom for where to get these :))

Now that you're inspired to make this simple, affordable, and aesthetic change in your very own homes, here are some of our top picks! For drinking those Instagrammable milkshakes or iced teas, see this. For storing the Indian masalas that you have in various shapes and amounts, try these. If you prefer a more subtle, wooden look to go with the paneling of your cabinets, then you can consider this. They are both airtight, so you can rest easy knowing the masala is not going to lose its zest! And if all of that isn't quirky enough, here are some interesting shapes and sizes. Happy revamping!
