I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who wakes in the morning craving chocolate. Till a couple of weeks back, I detested eating oats but now I've found the recipe that combines the goodness of oats with the deliciousness of chocolate and I cannot stop! It’s best to make this first while preparing breakfast so it can be done by the time you get the other dishes ready! Read on to see the recipe I adapted from @Foodini._ ‘s from Instagram and make this in 5 easy steps!
Serves: 1 person (as a whole meal) or 2 people in conjunction with other dishes
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 20-25 mins
Nutrients: Carbs, fiber and protein.
Ingredients:
½ of a big banana or 1 small banana
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 and a ½ Tbs Cocoa powder
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon baking powder (key to making it taste like cake!)
Dash of salt
1 Tbsp Maple syrup or Honey
½ cup normal milk or almond milk for the vegan version.
Chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips for the vegan version (optional)
Steps:
Mash banana in oven-proof bowl with a fork
Add oats, cocoa, cinnamon, baking powder, salt and honey/maple syrup and stir with a fork to distribute baking powder evenly
TIP: you can put a little less than ½ tsp of baking powder and it'll still do the trick while interfering less with the flavours.
Add the milk and stir
Tip: Add ¼ cup more milk for porridge like consistency and softer oats
Sprinkle Chocolate chips
Pop in the oven for 20-25 mins.
That’s it, pull out and eat warm!
